Toros Meat Market Co.

The Challenge & Solution

This brand stemmed from the Logo Hunt Challenge, a contest where designers were encouraged to find logos worth rebranding in their local neighborhood. Going beyond the original intent, I created a branding system for a local butcher in my town of Huntington Park. I set out to develop a timeless aesthetic for a business that prides itself on simply cutting high quality meat.

A Hard Working Logo for a Hard Working Family

I researched Toros Meat Market by simply walking in and having a conversation with the butchers and grocers. From there I built my word map. The place was family-run. The owner, a hard working father, was a “no bells and whistles” type that was very blunt and honest. They just wanted to sell meat and do good work. As a result, when developing the brand, I went with the core theme of honest, to the point shopping or “cutting the bull”. The toro was a natural pick for the brand, considering the name. I wanted the toro to be bold and strong, something timeless and direct that they can use for years to come.

A Flexible Wordmark

Though it seems like a rigid logo, the Toros Meat Market Co. word mark allows for all sorts of layouts for various situations. Considering they’re in the business of selling all sorts of meat packaged in different ways, they should have as many possible logo layouts / lockups. Whether it’s on a cardboard box or on a paper bag, they’ll have the opportunity to rep their brand!
